The Challenges of Communicable Diseases

Knowing What You Need to Protect Your Dog

The advancement in medicine for animals has significantly decreased the occurrence of many of the following diseases, however you should still be informed of these communicable diseases your dog may come in contact with at dog parks, daycares, kennels, and other dog friendly public places and businesses.

CANINE PARVOVIRUS, one of the first vaccines puppies receive- and for good reason. Puppies with parvo have a high mortality rate.

The PARVO vaccine is highly effective and is a core vaccine.

The virus is spread orally, by fecal/oral transmission.

PARVO is highly contagious, all items and areas a dog with Parvo has been in contact with should be cleaned and disinfected to minimize the risk to other dogs.

CANINE INFLUENZA, the dog flu spread by way of coughing and sneezing. Today the flu is not spreading widely amongst dogs in general due to the available vaccine.

These are the core (required) vaccines and the non-core (recommended) vaccines, as per the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association.

We have continued to stress the importance of not having your dog(s) vaccinated within 14-days of boarding. If your dog has shown any signs or symptoms associated with any communicable disease, kennel cough, conjunctivitis, parainfluenza, worms and/or parasites, we ask that you not board your dog until 14-days have past.
